CNN Goes Behind the Scenes at Cash4Gold’s State-of-the-Art, High-Security Processing Center

Pompano Beach, Fla. – March 29, 2010 – Cash4Gold (www.Cash4Gold.com), the trusted industry leader in mail-in gold buying, recently invited cable news giant CNN into its cutting-edge South Florida headquarters. CNN cameras were the first to catch a behind-the-scenes glimpse of the new Cash4Gold facility that opened in 2009.

CNNMoney.com posted an inside look at the Cash4Gold facility following the channel’s recent visit. The video, seen here, offers a step-by-step snapshot of what happens when a customer’s Jewelry Return Pack arrives at the Cash4Gold processing facility.

In the video, the CNN reporter and camera crew tour Cash4Gold headquarters with CEO Jeff Aronson, who discusses what happens when the company receives a Jewelry Return Pack in the mail. The company runs through a series of security checks before the package proceeds to the Cash4Gold testing and processing departments for evaluation.

Cash4Gold uses three different methods to test the purity of gold: electronic testing, scratch testing and x-ray fluorescence testing. After each item is appraised based on its melt value, a check is cut for the customer. Melt value refers to the value of actual precious metals included in an item and does not account for the decorative, historic or sentimental value.

Once the customer receives the Cash4Gold check, he/she has 12 days from the date on the check to decide if he/she wants to accept the offer or to have the items sent back with the postage and insurance paid. Over 90% of Cash4Gold customers accept the valuation of their items and proceed to cash the check.

During this 12 day holding period, the items are housed in Cash4Gold’s vault. Aronson explains that the highly-secure vault sits atop over 20,000 pounds of steel, is surrounded by 16-inch thick walls and protected by a multi-layered security system. If the customer accepts the check, Cash4Gold delivers the items to its in-house melt room where the jewelry is melted down in furnaces that reach 1800 degrees before being poured into large gold bars.

As part of the tour, the CNN reporter spoke with Cash4Gold employees that work in each of the departments that were featured. The CNNMoney.com video gives consumers a sense of what goes on each day at Cash4Gold’s facility, including the evaluation, processing and melting methods at Cash4Gold. The company, which has expanded into Germany, the Netherlands, Spain, Canada and the U.K., is nearing the 1 million transactions mark.
