Melt value refers only to the quantity of actual precious metals included in an item and does not account for artistic, historic, or sentimental value. In the case of the Super Bowl trophy, its fine craftsmanship, as well as its historical value and the tremendous athletic achievement it represents clearly make it infinitely more valuable than its mere melt value.
